Your Sunday School class name has two important perspectives: the inside view and the outside view. Both views are critically important for the revolutionary Sunday School class. Let’s look at each to see what the name should be catchy and meaningful:
Inside: Meaningful
Members of your class have gotten to know one another. They have developed relationships and trust. They have studied lessons, fellowshipped, and met needs together. The name should be a reflection of the group. At the same time, it should be catchy and memorable.
My class is called the Circle of Friends. Before Covid-19, we ended all class sessions in a circle holding hands to pray. Praying together bonds groups, and the name is a reflection of our relationships developed through time, ministry, and prayer.
Outside: Catchy
The person outside the class does not know the class or members yet. The friend or prospect may only know you. Give the class a name to help the person remember the name and desire to attend the class. For example, f I don’t ride a bike, I may not be attracted to the Bikers’ Class, but if I do then it may be very interesting (catchy) to me.
Catchy and Meaningful
The name should be memorable for members and prospects, and it should represent and attract. It should help members want to share it with friends and acquaintances. And it should make prospects curious and more interested.
I want to challenge you to have both views when you name your class: inside and outside. Consider your members and consider potential friends and guests. Give the class a name that will be meaningful for members and catchy for friends and prospects. Then celebrate that catchy and meaningful name. Encourage members faithfully to attend and share the name as they invite people. Make relationships and make disciples. Be revolutionary!
