In my previous post, Sunday School Still Matters Online, I encouraged pastors and directors to plan a training party at church on Saturday, March 13, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM. Group leaders need to be encouraged and challenged. This training is just what the doctor ordered!
Allan Taylor will speak to Adults/Pastors/Sunday School Directors about A Strategy for Sunday School and and about A Franchising Sunday School. Leaders of preschoolers, children, and students will focus on Reaching, Teaching, and Member Care during the three sessions. Crystal Townsend will lead preschool leaders. Ryan Morris will lead children’s leaders. And Jonathan Chapman will lead student leaders.
The 3 Sessions of the Training Party
Each age group will enjoy 3 one-hour sessions. Each hour consists of training for about 40 minutes, then 5-10 minutes of dialogue about the training, and a brief restroom break.
- 9:30 AM: Session 1
- 10:30 AM: Session 2
- 11:30 AM: Session 3
- 12:30 PM: LUNCH
Downloadable Training
Because internet speeds vary, the training has been recorded. It may be streamed or it can be downloaded in advance to be viewed. Each person who registers their group will receive an email on Monday, March 8. That email will contain (1) a link to the album of videos, (2) simple instructions for downloading the videos, and (3) copies of handouts for Allan Taylor’s presentations.
Flexible Training
Because the training was recorded, you have great flexibility in how you set up your training party. You can share the album link with those who are still uncomfortable participating in person so they can view it in the safety of their own homes. You can set up 4 rooms in your church (one for each age group) to view it, whether internet is available or not. Or you could set up four homes (one for each group) to view it. You could set up four separate training times (one for each age group) to view it. If you are handy with Zoom, you can even share the training with your group by Zoom (for best results, I encourage you to download the videos).
Making the Most out of the Party
I encourage you to view all 3 training sessions for each age group at the same event in order to get the most out of the training. I also encourage you to view the training together, if possible. Take time to debrief each session. Ask some key questions, like:
- Share something you learned.
- What was most helpful?
- What are 2 or 3 things you plan to implement?
I highly encourage you to plan a meal together. Provide childcare if possible. Make sure everything is done safely (masks, 6 foot distance, etc.). And follow up with your teachers within 2 weeks to see what adjustments they have made as a result of the training.
Cost
This cost for this training is greatly reduced because of the Cooperative Program giving of Kentucky Baptist churches. The cost is only $5 per person, or $25 maximum per church. Registration deadline is March 12. Press the Register button to sign up your group now.
