Without investment in relationships, they tend to slide toward distance and disconnection. What are you doing to show you care? What are you doing to stem the tide of absence and dropping out from your Sunday School class or small group?
Show You Care
Care requires time, but not all care requires a great amount of time. Consider these five ways of expressing your care:
- Listen. Put your phones down. Look each other in the eyes. Listen to the words, tone, facial expressions, and gestures. Ask questions.
- Text. Express interest. Follow up on a conversation. Wish them a happy birthday, anniversary, etc. Tell them you missed them Sunday. Ask how vacation went. Ask how you can pray for him/her.
- Mail a handwritten note. Send a Christmas, birthday, or other celebration card. Write a note of appreciation. Write out a prayer for them. Share a scripture. Ask for help.
- Spend time together. Eat a meal together. Travel to an event. Sit together at church or in a meeting. Sit down together at a coffee shop. Arrive early before another event.
- Pray together. Follow up on a previous prayer request. Ask how you can pray for him/her and they family. Take turns praying for each other.
- Help in time of need. When needs arise, meet them. When needs are greater than your ability, ask for the help of the group or the church.
This is not meant to be an exhaustive list. As you can see, there are many ways to express your care. Conversation and time spent together really do matter.
How Do You Express Care?
What are other ways you have shown members of your group that you care? What are ways they have shown care for each other. Share these additional ideas. Care matters. Show you care. Make disciples. Be revolutionary!
