You start a new business. It is wildly successful in the first five years. You debate with your advisors and partners about the merits of opening another branch. You research areas and find one with a lack of service from your kind of business. You decide to offer a satellite location of your business. And like your original location, the new location meets needs in the new community. It reaches new customers and succeeds at its purposes.
According to Barna and a recent e-mail newsletter from Josh Hunt, Sunday School attendance across the United States is at an all time high. Yes, it is true that many churches have experienced a plateau or decline in attendance. So how did Sunday School attendance in the U.S. reach an all-time high level?
My simple answer is this: there are more total churches now than ever before. In other words, there are more branches of Sunday School than ever before. No doubt our churches need to start more classes. If they did, all Sunday Schools would have the chance to grow.
But could we be even more revolutionary? Could we we start even more branches of Sunday School? Will you pray about and start a satellite Sunday School? Start one at another time. Start one on another day. Start one at another location. Start one to reach another age group. Start one to reach another community. Start one to reach another people group or culture.
Could satellite Sunday School be in your future? Reach out to more people in Jesus’ name. Help people encounter God in Bible study and experience community. Be revolutionary!
