Why do so few of our Sunday School classes experience life changing Bible study? Could it be that we begin the journey toward life changing Bible study incorrectly? The essential element needed for the lives of members to be transformed is that teachers must be having their lives changed. Teachers must give preparation for life changing Bible study the time that is needed. The amount of time given to the Bible study on Sunday morning is directly impacted by the amount of time the teacher spends during the week in personal study and preparation.
Teacher, let me suggest the following plan for preparation…
Sunday night – Prepare for next week’s lesson by simply reading the Bible passages
Monday – Read the Teacher’s/Leader’s Guide. Read all the material for that week.
Tuesday – Enrich your understand by reading two or three additional commentaries.
Wednesday – Participate in a group study and discussion of lesson.
Thursday – Arrange your teaching plan. Develop an outline for the Sunday morning study time.
Friday – Relate the lesson to life. Develop the two or three action steps of application for the group.
Saturday – Engage in prayer. Ask God to speak through you.
Sunday – Direct the Bible study and enjoy doing it!
Did you notice the acrostic? If you will follow this simple guide you will be prepared and you will notice an improvement in your teaching. Another benefit is that the Bible will be at the core of your Sunday School class and when that happens lives will be changed.
